EARTH CONTINUITY TEST DEMONSTRATION

To check the integrity of the protective earth of Class I appliances, the earth continuity test is performed.

The protective earth is an important safety feature of all Class I appliances.  It provides a second level of protection against electric shock.

What I demonstrate in this video is how to perform the earth continuity test on a Class I electrical appliance in accordance with the requirements of AS/NZS 3760. It is the methodology I teach students who attend our test and tag course.

The set up would be different when using an automated PAT device however the underlying principle is the same.

It is also worth noting there are three variations to this test and each has its own merit, however the standard does not specify which test should be performed under what circumstances so it is up to the skill, training and exerience of the technician to know which is best for what situation.
