Reminder: 3 Monthly Tag Colour Changeover 1st June 2020

Are you using the designated 3 monthly tag colour coded system in your workplace?

In accordance with AS/NZS 3012, Table 3 and Appendix F, appliances used on construction and demolition sites  are required to be test and tagged every three months and follow a defined tag colour coded system.

Appliances subject to three monthly retest intervals that are tested and tagged during the period start of June 2020 to end of August 2020 are required to have a BLUE tag attached.

Some sites might apply a “grace period” of one week either side of the change over date. Advise we received from Worksafe Vic indicated they are satisfied the testing and tagging is current provided it has not been more than 3 months since the appliance was last checked and the correct tag colour was attached at that time.

RCDs used on these sites are also subject to strict testing requirements that can range from one to three month intervals. This includes RCDs in site shed, inbuilt to Portable Socket Outlet Assemblies (PSOAs), generators, inline RCDs on power tools etc. Click here for more information.

The building industry standard “Electrical Installations on Construction Sites” details all the requirements.  It identifies that testing of electrical appliances and RCDs can be conducted by

  • A licensed electrician or
  • A licensed electrical inspector or
  • A competent person

The inspection and testing must be carried out in accordance with the standard AS/NZS 3760.
